After School Art

Creating Art After School

This year we focused on different types of sculpture.

Students had the opportunity to create rhythm pods and create their choice of clay sculptures.

Students also created abstract sculpture using wood, wire, nylon, gesso and paint.  They viewed ideas from other artists and then had the choice of creating something inspired by one of the artists or an idea of their own.

Our last exploration was kinetic sculpture - Calder inspired mobiles.

Fake Cake Contest

I had a group of students who wanted to create a "fake cake" for Chocopalooza during their lunch period.  They worked together for several weeks and did a great job.  They were awarded first place for the "Most Creative Use of Materials" by the panel of judges!   I'm very proud of them.

Winnie the Pooh

This year the 5th and 6th grades put on the performance of Winnie the Pooh.  Students were involved in all areas of the play including helping with the set design.

The costume heads were created by local teacher/writer; Laura Krzyzaniak, and the final painting was completed by our high school students.  They really did an awesome job!

Artifact Projects

Fifth grade students and their families make some really cool artifact projects for their Social Studies class each year. The teachers hold an open house in the evening to showcase all their hard work. Here are a few examples of what students brought in.

Creativity in Motion

We are so fortunate to have such great supporters of the arts in our community.  One of our fundraising efforts involved selling student and teacher art at the downtown City Hall building the evening before Art-A-Licious.  Every building in the district was represented.  There were so many cool pieces of art.
